Dr. Shappell is a surgical and molecular pathologist with focus on Genitourinary Pathology and translational research on prostate cancer biomarkers. He received his M.D. and Ph.D. from Baylor College of Medicine, Houston, TX, and completed residency and fellowship training at Baylor affiliated Hospitals.
He served for several years on the faculty of Vanderbilt University Medical Center as a diagnostic pathologist conducting basic and clinical research primarily on prostate carcinoma before entering the private reference laboratory sector. He is a founding partner and Medical Director of Avero Diagnostics, Dallas, TX.
