About Us

Tom Mattison, MD and Trae Mattison, MD recognized the growing need for a high-quality pathology company dedicated to patient care and customer service. They launched Mattison Pathology, a privately-held, physician-owned laboratory located in Lubbock, Texas. It wasn’t long before the partners had won over the West Texas medical community. Soon after, the company expanded its reach to North Texas and New Mexico, providing services to local physicians, ambulatory surgery centers, and regional hospitals.

Mattison Pathology opened a new anatomic and molecular pathology facility in Dallas, Texas, bringing on Scott Shappell, MD, PhD as medical director and partner. With its expanded test menu of highly complex molecular tests, new research opportunities, and subspecialized pathology services, Mattison Pathology embarked on a venture to provide services throughout the southern region of the US.

To help further the company’s mission, Mattison Pathology began doing business as Avero Diagnostics. The practice continued to provide the same services and core principles of quality, excellence, and innovation to clients throughout the United States.

Progenity, Inc. divests itself of Avero Diagnostics, an affiliate laboratory, in an asset sale to Northwest Pathology, P.S., allowing Northwest and Avero to expand their service lines and customer base.
